Cyclist attacked in Knysna Road
A man who cycles home from work has issued a warning to fellow commuters after he was attacked and robbed by three men at an intersection in Knysna Road on Saturday 17 July.
According to the victim, who wishes to remain anonymous, he was cycling in the direction of the CBD from the Garden Route Mall at 19:30, when he saw three men walking towards him near the traffic light at CTM and Kraaibosch Estate.
“As I passed them, one of the men hit me on my neck with something that looked like a panga. I thought he was trying to kill me. I fell down and all three started beating me. I managed to get away with severe bruises, but they took my bike and my backpack with my wallet. I really thought I was going to die,” he says.
The victim did not report the incident to the police, but according to a resident of the area, there have been similar incidents.
Southern Cape police spokesperson,
Capt Malcolm Pojie, urges victims of crime to immediately report incidents at their nearest police station. “This way we can immediately deploy the resources and staff at our disposal to areas where our services are most needed. It also assists us to identify crime tendencies and hotspots enabling us to strategically deploy our members to prevent attacks,” he says.
