‘Potpourri’: a little bit of everything

-

16 September marks the first performance of Carpe Musicam!'s Potpourri spring concert series. This performance will be held at the wonderful Glenwood House School Auditorium. The programme is, as its name suggests, a collection of a variety of music types.

Popular composers such as George Gershwin will rub shoulders with Vangelis, John Williams and Henry Mancini. A selection of movements from The Carnival of the Animals together with Ogden Nash's witty explanatory verses will delight young and old. Conductor Norman Carless has been dusting off his trumpet, and has a rather singular version of Astor Piazolla's Libertango up his sleeve, which will remain in the memory long after the last echo has died away. The CM! Choir will be joining the orchestra for the final four items, which will include Beethoven's Hallelujah! from the oratorio Christ on the Mount of Olives.

This is a performance that will stir the soul, and is not to be missed. As an added treat, the Glenwood House Senior Marimba Group will be providing music for about 30 minutes before the concert.

There are over 500 seats in the auditorium and they are selling fast. Be sure of your place and book online at www. carpemusicam.co.za.

If you will not be able to attend this performance, there are two others:

On 18 September the programme will be repeated in the Knysna Dutch Reformed Church Hall in Fichat Street at 15:30.

The last performance in this series is on 25 September at the Laminin Agora Celebration Venue near Hartenbos (on the Oudtshoorn road).

Refreshments will be on sale for an hour before all three concerts. The atmosphere is always informal and relaxed, so sit back and enjoy 90 minutes or so of great musical entertainment.
