A coffee brand for Empower

- Alida de Beer

A George-based non-profit organisation, Empower, on Thursday 8 September launched a new coffee blend, Crown Coffee, that will be sold as a fund-raiser.

The launch was held at Caloroso coffee shop where the beans will be roasted. It is an African Arabica coffee for which the beans are sourced from Rwanda and Uganda.

The name and logo of the coffee is based on Empower's logo, which is in the form of a crown.

"Every bag purchased will be supporting African beans as well as local business in George, as Kelvin Appelgren of Caloroso will be roasting our beans for us," said the organisation's director, David May.

"We will be selling them on from there. All profits are going to Empower."

For every 150kg coffee sold per month, Empower will be able to employ a facilitator. "This will allow us to get into the schools and promote entrepreneurship, which is our vision," says May.

"We are excited to collaborate and partner with businesses, individuals, coffee lovers, churches and schools to support a great cause to keep on pushing George to be a better community through reaching more and more people and empowering them."

Empower works to enable people to become successful entrepreneurs and leaders in their community. "We try to connect people to mentors and equip them so that they will flourish spiritually and emotionally as well as in business," says May.

Persons interested to collaborate with Empower, may contact David May on 074 889 7956.
