New at York Ballroom Academy
York Ballroom Academy welcomes one of South Africa's best ballroom and Latin dancers, Anthony Rau.
At the beginning of this year, after all Covid regulations were dropped, York Ballroom Academy got back to its dancing feet. The academy has always been very privileged to have dance teachers with excellent training and unquestionable dedication. Now they feel unbelievably fortunate to have Anthony Rau join their team.
Rau is not completely new to the studio, as he has accompanied many York competitive dancers at competitions and assisted three Old Yorkies in completing their Associates.
Rau grew up in George, where his dance journey started. "Being back to teach the next generation of dancers is a dream come true," he said. York Ballroom Academy classes take place on Monday evenings from 18:00 to 19:00.
Experience
Rau has over 25 years of competitive
Latin-American and ballroom experience, including three years of intensive training in London with the world's best Latin and ballroom coaches.
Anthony has competition credits and several titles under his belt, including SA Championships, Blackpool British Open, World Championships, International Championships and UK Open. He has completed his Associate, Licentiate, and Fellowship in Latin-American, along with his Associate and Licentiate in ballroom through the IDTA, achieving high honours, and has coached several SA champions and successful professional candidates for their IDTA exams.
Rau has adjudicated several top championships, including provincial and national championships for the SADF, SADTA and FEDANSA.
He also represented South Africa at the 2014 and 2017 World Dance Council Meetings in Blackpool, and attended the Ballroom Dance Federation's international congress.
