Yorkies crowned as Eden champs

-

The York first boys hockey team wrapped up a successful season when they won the Eden Men's League at the York astro turf on 10 September. "They came up against the experienced NMU men's team in a very exciting final on a gloomy Saturday afternoon," said coach Jason Slater.

"An early goal by striker Raiven Levendal put the York boys on the front foot in a match which was delicately poised through three chukkas. NMU had a few dangerous counter-attacks which were not converted and the York team capitalised on this through their captain, Sean Slater, who finished off a penalty corner to reach his 130th goal of the season and put the York team 2-0 ahead. NMU converted a welldrilled short corner variation in the dying minutes of the match to make the final score 2-1 in favour of the school boys."

The York team scored 116 goals and conceded 16 in their 14 men's league matches. This caps off a remarkable season for this team.

Season statistics make for incredible reading: they played 50 matches, of which they lost eight, drew three and won 39. They scored 286 goals and conceded 68.

"The team would like to thank their sponsors, their parents and the support they received from the school throughout the year," said Slater.
