H’s Bay robbery suspects at large
George detectives are investigating a house robbery after an incident that happened in Herold's Bay at about 19:30 on Sunday 15 January. The suspects are still at large. According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, a man (54) and his wife were in the home at the time of the incident.
"Initial investigation indicates that five men, at least one armed with a firearm, entered the house. The group took a bunch of keys and opened the safe where they took three firearms, five cellphones, an undisclosed amount of cash, a laptop, shoes and one Krugerrand. They fled the scene thereafter," said Spies.
The incident was brought to the attention of the larger community on various neighbourhood watch WhatsApp groups. In the message, a member of the George Community Police Forum (CPF) states that the owners of the home were "overwhelmed, tied up" and the house ransacked. The member asks all community members to be extra vigilant and ensure they have safety protocols in place at home.
Confirmation on house members being "overwhelmed and tied up" could not be obtained by the time of going to press.
Ken Field, chairperson of the Herold's Bay Ratepayers Association, said there will be a meeting this week with local farmers to discuss the safety and security of the community.
Field said he cannot confirm any information regarding the incident at this time.
The investigation officer, Sgt John Boezack, urges the public to come forward with any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects. Anyone with information may contact the George police on 044 803 4715 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111. Information obtained will be dealt with confidentiality.
