Brown will be ‘Blowin’ the Blues’ at Belvidere

- Blake Linder

It might be a new year, but Gordi Brown & His BigTime Harmonica will be Blowin' the Blues once again at the Belvidere Manor Hotel in a week's time.

Premier harmonica player and singer Gordi Brown aims to deliver the blues in the tradition of the Chicago masters, adding West Coast swing and classic jazz standards from "The Great American Songbook". "For me, the blues has to be deep, emotional, convincing, and from the heart", he says. "As far as the jazzoriented tunes go, they must swing and be very bluesy."

Ever the entertainer, Gordi has performed to much acclaim in the UK, France, and US, and now South Africa. His shows are always a sell-out, so book your seats early to avoid disappointment. Gordi says, "There's always a fantastic vibe at the Belvidere Manor where I can get up close and personal. It's a joy for me to express my brand of blues to such an appreciative audience. Looking forward to rockin' the house again ..!"

The show will take place on Tuesday 24 January from 19:00 to 20:15. Tickets are available in advance from the Hearing & Health Centre in the Knysna Mall.

You can also give them a call on 044 382 1168. All proceeds from the show go to the Knysna-Sedgefield Hospice.

As well as performing, Gordi presents a blues and swingin' jazz radio programme, The Gordi Brown Blues Show, on Knysna 97.0FM and MC Plettenberg Bay 90.3FM every Sunday between 17:00 and 18:00. "It's a privilege to be able to share my passion for the blues and play my favourite sounds from my personal record collection," he says.

“It's my time with the music that I love, my way to review the roots of my musical inspiration. Hopefully, listeners will learn more about the artists who have helped make the blues one of the richest and most enduring forms in musical history."
