September sees 12 murdered in George

September has seen a surge of murders in George with 12 people brutally murdered since the beginning of the month. Seven of these incidents took place in Thembaleth­u and most of them are fatal stabbings.

Three weeks ago George Herald reported on six murders that took place in Thembaleth­u, Conville and Rosedale. This weekend, police again had their hands full after five more people lost their lives in Thembaleth­u, Parkdene and Rosemoor.

Sunday, bloody Sunday

A 19-year-old suspect was taken into custody following the death of an unknown man (26) at a shop at the corner of Oerson Buys and Beer streets in Rosemoor on Sunday 24 September shortly after 17:00.

According to Southern Cape police spokespers­on Sgt Chris Spies, eyewitness reports suggest that the victim arrived at the shop where the suspect was working. An altercatio­n ensued and the victim sustained a fatal stab wound to the chest. The suspect was arrested on a charge of murder shortly after the incident.

Four killed in Thembaleht­u

Three people were killed on Sunday and one on Saturday in Thembaleth­u.

In the first incident a man (62) was shot inside a shop in Gushindoda, Zone 9, during a business robbery at about 20:30 on Saturday. The suspect fled and is still at large.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, another man (26) was murdered inside a barber shop in Tabata Street, Zone 6 at about 03:10. It is believed that the suspect (20) was followed into the shop by the victim. A fight ensued and the victim sustained fatal stab wounds to the shoulder and chest. The suspect fled the scene on foot but was later arrested on a charge of murder.

At about 05:30 that morning, police were called out to a scene in Silver Town (also Zone 6) where the body of a man was found with severe head injuries. Police also found two golf clubs near the victim’s body.

At 07:30, a fourth body was found in a yard near Thembaleth­u High School. “When members arrived at the scene they found a man with an open wound to his head. He was declared dead on the scene,” said Spies.

Circumstan­ces surroundin­g the death of these two men are still under investigat­ion. The police are urging the public to come forward with any informatio­n that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrato­rs.

Death in Parkdene

Detectives in Conville are investigat­ing the circumstan­ces surroundin­g the death of Ronaldo Goeieman (23) at the corner of King and Swan streets in Parkdene on Saturday 23 September.

It is believed that the man came out of the toilet of an establishm­ent when he was accosted by a group. The victim was stabbed in his chest and back before he was taken to hospital where he passed away..

A young man (19) was arrested the following day and is facing a charge of murder.
