Top achievers at Country House School acknowledged
Avelile Cishe, a passionate leader and researcher from George, recently graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science Honours in Natural Resource Management from Nelson Mandela University.
Cishe's academic achievements are impressive. He also graduated his first forestry qualification from NMU cum laude, and has maintained his standards throughout, showcasing a consistent dedication to excellence. "My granny instilled an inquisitive mind in me," Cishe shared. "That special woman is my motivation."
He also credits his passion for forestry research and development, specifically within site sustainability, applied silviculture, forest growth and yield, tree breeding, and climate change vs forest response, to inspiring mentors in both industry and academia.
However, his drive goes beyond grades. While pursuing his honours degree, Cishe didn't shy away from leadership opportunities. He served as assistant coach for the Madibaz Football Club, playing a key role in their promotion to a regional league in 2023. Additionally, he supported student learning as the assistant coordinator for Supplemental
Instruction within the NMU Learning and Teaching Cluster.
Cishe's leadership extended beyond the university walls. He served as the head of region (Southern Africa) for the 2022-2023 term, overseeing strategy and development for over 11 local committees across more than eight SADC countries.
He also served in various advisory boards and forums, gaining valuable experience in the fields of university administration, industry, and government. These roles even led him to travel internationally, visiting countries in Africa, Europe and South America.
