Voices unite for Carpe Diem

-

Choir music lovers are invited to Voices Unite, a lovely evening of song and enjoyment on Thursday 23 May featuring the Neuer

Kammerchor Heidenheim from Germany and the George Male Choir.

It is a fund-raising concert for Carpe Diem special needs school and is being hosted by George Rotary Club. The Carpe Diem and Junior Mount Primary school choirs will also perform.

Funds will be utilised to repair two classrooms that suffered extensive damage during a fire at the school on 6 February this year.

The Neuer Kammerchor Heidenheim consists of 70 young singers (aged 16 to 20) under the direction of Thomas Kammel.

With a lot of passion, the young people regularly inspire audiences with their performances. They perform about 30 times a year and in recent years have earned 22 gold medals and two silver diplomas at competitions. The choir is on a tour through South Africa during May and concerts will also be held in Cape Town, Durban and Pretoria.

The evergreen George Male Choir, now under the baton of Chrisna du Preez, is continuing to grow from strength to strength. With three overseas trips, a performance at the Royal Albert Hall and a fifth place in the 2007 International Male Choir Festival in Cornwall, England, this choir has been wooing audiences across all genres and languages.

The Voices Unite concert will start at 18:30 at Carpe Diem School. Tickets are R100 per person and can be obtained from Carpe Diem on 044 874 4074 or Rotary Club President Di Kershaw on 083 290 2306.
