FC Rebels suffer massive defeat in George

- Zama Gagu

Simunye Football Club, the former

Safa Eden Regional League champions, showcased their prowess on Saturday afternoon, securing a resounding 3 - 1 victory against Knysna-based side FC Rebels in an exhilarating encounter at Lawaaikamp Stadium.

Sindile Magubane and Yamkela Ntlaba were the heroes for Simunye, finding the net with crucial goals, while Roger Armoed salvaged a consolation goal for FC Rebels.

Currently vying for a top-five position in the Safa Eden Hollywoodbets Regional League standings with 44 points, Simunye FC displayed their dominance from the outset, with Lwazi Mkhetho delivering a powerful strike early on, albeit missing the target.

Despite FC Rebels' efforts to break through Simunye's staunch defence, it was Simunye who drew first blood, with Magubane's strike from outside the box putting them in the lead. FC Rebels' attempts from set pieces were thwarted by Simunye goalkeeper Nkosikhona Moss.

The second half saw an intensified battle as both teams sought to assert their dominance. Ntlaba doubled Simunye's lead with another impressive strike, only for FC Rebels to claw one back after a defensive lapse in Simunye's guard.

Simunye, however, maintained their offensive pressure, with Athenkosi Mahala providing a pinpoint cross for Magubane

to secure his brace with a powerful header, sealing the match 3 - 1 in Simunye's favour.

Despite FC Rebels' valiant efforts, Simunye emerged victorious, clinching maximum points in an electrifying Safa Eden Hollywoodbets Regional League showdown.
