Getaway (South Africa)

Getaway winner does it all

-

I remember opening an email to the surreal news that I’d won Delta Airline flights to any US destination for renewing my Getaway subscription. It was utterly unbelievable, a happy dilemma to be faced with and a challenge I was thrilled to take on. Torn between a beach or city escape, considering the grace of our good fortune, we opted to do both!

We spent a week in New York, the melting pot of diversity and the city that never sleeps. It did not disappoint. The energy was electric – we walked as far as we could, rode the subway and hailed cabs. We travelled between Ground Zero and Times Square, walked the Brooklyn Bridge, through Chinatown and Little Italy, Greenwich Village and the High Line. We did it all, including attending a Yankees game, complete with delicious hotdogs and local beers. And when we were done, and our feet couldn’t carry us any more, we flew to Miami to board a Western Caribbean cruise.

With all-inclusive meals, a stop in Key West, Grand Cayman, Cozumel and Costa Maya, this leg of our trip aboard the Celebrity Equinox was cheap in comparison to the accommodation and food bill we’d amassed in New York. I highly recommend investigating this as a travel option. It’s a fun, hassle-free way to explore multiple country stops in a very short space of time.

Back on dry land, before flying back to Cape Town, we squeezed in some sunshine down on South Beach, Miami. This Art Deco playground with $100 000 cars and vibrant nightlife was the perfect way to end off our American adventure. – Darren Bester, Cape Town
