Don is a veteran photographer and investigative journalist (and former editor of Getaway) who, some time back, realised he knew little about the natural world. So he set out to discover it. This took him to every continent, including Antarctica, and resulted in five books on natural history and hundreds of articles. His other books include a biography of Ruth First and Gang Town. His next one, The Last Elephants (with Colin Bell), will be out early next year.
