Beware the ‘coyotes’
A wonderful rush of memories hit me when I opened the July issue of Getaway and looked out over Utah’s majestic Monument Valley again. For our honeymoon my husband and I stuffed a campervan full of snacks and visited
11 of America’s national parks … in winter!
When we arrived at the red-dust RV park in Monument Valley, I immediately went to find the facilities. As I walked along the path something big and fast rushed at me and, without getting a proper look, I set off screaming about coyotes. My husband and our Australian neighbours came running to my aid – and pointed out the culprit: a perfectly camouflaged, adorable brown bunny.
It snowed that evening, colouring the famous Mittens [two buttes] white and turning our campsite into Lapland. The next morning I easily spotted that brown bunny against the pure white snow. Thanks for reminding me of those open roads, breathtaking vistas and ‘evil’ rabbits ready to pounce. – Freda Smit, Stellenbosch
