Little Samadhi Karoo Retreat
UNLISTED
Barrydale has always attracted healers, and Terry de Vries, who has been working in complementary health for more than two decades, is the latest arrival. She purchased Little Samadhi earlier this year, citing the location – high up against the mountain, with sweeping views – and the excellence of its yoga studio as key reasons. She closed the retreat for a few months to spruce up the house, injecting vibrant colours and building a rose-quartz labyrinth in the garden, before opening on 1 October. There is a choice of three en-suite rooms, all elegant rather than ‘hippy’, with original artworks and lovely garden views. Two are within the house; one is off the wisteriacovered deck. Terry lives in the loft room upstairs, so the lounge-diningkitchen area is shared. Aside from being a yoga teacher and labyrinth facilitator, Terry is also a shamanic breathwork facilitator and has studied reflexology, reiki, bio-energetics, sacred geometry, vision questing and more. Sounds daunting, but this earthy Afrikaner believes that the simple joy of laughter and learning acceptance can be the greatest of healers. Check me in already!
ROOM TIP All three rooms are beautiful, but the Frida Kahlo terrace room is the most private, and has the best view.
COST From R550 pp sharing B&B. Yoga retreats from R1 800 pp.
