JAYSON’S TOP BUILDINGS IN CHURCH STREET
NO. 25, THE VICTORIAN HOUSE
Built in 1813, the double-storey beauty is the only building left in its Victorian form – with ornate plaster mouldings and intricate cast-iron veranda added in 1880.
NO. 30, PINEAPPLE HOUSE
This 1790s house has a magnificent (albeit reconstructed) baroque front gable with typical ‘holbol’ (in and out) profile and pineapple motifs – a symbol of hospitality at the time.
NO. 43, BALLOTINA
An 1815 gem that shows off a majestic neoclassical-inspired front gable, one of the few facades in the street to have survived both Victorian tastes and the earthquake’s fury.
