The latest wine pairings, plus a berry blast

Blueberries will be paired with, or be the main ingredient of, many lip-smacking treats at Limpopo’s Berry Festival on 2–3 February in Magoesbaskloof and Haenertsburg. After picking your own at Blueberry Heights Farm, reward yourself with the Mountain Cafe’s famous blueberry cheesecake, perfectly paired with a blueberry G&T. Alternately, there’s Zwakala Brewery’s limited-edition Blueberry Ale. The farm makes jams, cordials and even a blueberry hot sauce, plus two new items made from their first crop of golden kiwi fruit (which are berries, in case you didn’t know). There’s more at the Harvest Market and in local restaurants. For a real local burger, head to the Iron Crown Pub: a beef patty topped with avo and crushed macadamias, Wegraakbosch cheese and blueberry chutney. Note: The raspberries will ripen only late in February and through March, so if you don’t make it to the festival, you can still pick berries later at Kuhestan Farm. berryfestival.co.za
