CIRCUMPOLAR by Ferenc Szémár
Winter in Hungary weaves a transparent blanket of mist over human settlements. If one rises above it, colourful star trails can be brought together with the glowing lights of the cities below. This extremely long capture sequence was taken at Galyatető in the Mátra Mountains, and took half the winter (50 x 300-second exposures), facing the clear northern sky as the circumpolar star Almach just touched the horizon.
