FINALIST Springbokvlakte
After a long drought in the Richtersveld, many of the quiver trees were left dead and the rain was too late for this particular tree in the Springbokvlakte. The contrast between the shadows on the mountains and the sunshine on the open flats created this dramatic scene that begged to be photographed.
FINALIST Down the Hatch
I found a few white-fronted bee-eaters catching insects on the banks of the Olifants River in the Kruger National Park. I spent quite a bit of time there before capturing this image, which I am thrilled to share with you.
FINALIST Balancing Act
I took this photo while driving back to camp in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Agama reptiles typically come out in the middle of the day and tend to sit on the very top of the tree thorn bushes to get as much of the sun as possible. This agama showed a very good balancing act while holding on to the bush.

FINALIST Family Portrait
We were staying at Twee Rivieren in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in November last year, and this cheetah mother and two cubs had us all entertained for two days. She had caught a springbok between Samevloeing and Leeudril right next to the road. After eating, they lay together not far from the kill and rested as the sun went down. I took this image at 6.45pm, the light was slowly sinking behind the sand dune and the shadows were beginning to creep up. I love the way the two little cubs are sitting close to mom for protection, and the intense look of the one at the back.

FINALIST Don’t Jump
I spotted this jumping spider in my garden on a piece of moss. Then I added some green leaves in the background, got down low and used a macro slider to take about 20 photos, after which I stacked 14 of the images in Zerene Stacker.
