This beauty is tucked away on a part of a farm far from the R63 between Carnarvon and Williston. It is a national monument and features the highest corbelled dome in the Karoo. There is no electricity but there is gas for cooking and bathing, plus a gas freezer and a traditional cooking shelter. Cool down in the stone dam close to the dwelling. Charmaine and Piet Botha will make you welcome and then leave you alone to explore and relax. There are lovely walks. Stuurmansfontein can sleep six. R1 375 pn and you have the place to yourselves.

OSFONTEIN CORBELLED GUEST HOUSE
Not far from Carnarvon is this delightful farm with three kinds of guest accommodations. One is the well-equipped and atmospheric corbelled house with its double dome. The other is a converted stone shed. There is also a treehouse for couples. The corbelled house is extremely popular, in part for its lovely kitchen/ indoor braai. Osfontein can sleep four. R950 pn for a couple, R1 100 for four.

ROOYVLAKTE CORBELLED HOUSE
Close to Loxton is this rustic and isolated corbelled dwelling that was permanently inhabited long ago by a shepherd or a tenant farmer. There are sheltering hills and the remains of an old orchard. You may startle a small family of kudu. There is a donkey-boiler to heat water for showering, and a simple kitchen. Rooyvlakte can sleep two. R750 per night, but negotiable depending on length of stay.
