MEET THE FUSSERS

Dave Welensky SOFTWARE COMPANY DIRECTOR

Swimming gives me time to think and a lot of times things become clearer during a swim. It’s always an adventure. We swim at sunrise and it's awesome to see the sun coming up over the mountain; same as sunset. We can be treated to spectacular views and generally finish a swim on a high.

When you are out in the ocean you really forget about the mad rat-race of life and any negative energy. The mental toughness required to swim long distances in icy conditions has helped me so many times in stressful situations at work. And I’ve made some really good friends.

I have always loved being in the ocean. It gives me such a sense of mindfulness, but it’s also my playground. It is such a privilege to be surrounded by nature and by fabulous, like-minded swimmers.

Samantha Lustig OCM MANAGEMENT

I just love it that no two swims are ever the same. You never know what you are going to see, what the conditions out there are really going to be like, until you are out there. It is a cure for all bad moods, the place to mull through any worries.

There is something very addictive about swimming under the world-class scenery around Cape Town in the cold water. The combination of adventure, challenges, unpredictability and like-minded people is addictive.

Roy Godfrey IT

As a chronic introvert, ocean swimming started as a way for me to get some me-time. Having said that, every swim is a battle.

I have resisted the urge to get a wetsuit, and standing at the water’s edge, ankles freezing, I question that choice a few times a week. There are few sports where just starting is an achievement.
