The Barbel Run

The barbel run is the best time for catching tigers in the Okavango. A feeding frenzy occurs when the water levels drop after winter’s floods and barbel flush small baitfish from the papyrus beds where they’ve been safely feeding. Tigers and countless birds hungrily follow these little guppies. The timing varies each year depending on water levels but it typically occurs between September and October.
