I began a love affair with deserts while living in Los Angeles. There is something so profound about being able to take in a whole horizon. It puts a lot in perspective. For photography, the light is unbeatable and it’s easier to frame a subject when the background isn’t competing or jarring.

The first day in the saddle was a shock to the system. I was riding about once a week before the trip so I thought I was in good shape. My derrière told me this was not the case. But the body is an amazing thing, and somehow as time went on, the aches and pains disappeared.

Being something of a thrill-seeker growing up in Zimbabwe, to this day I have to say nothing quite lives up to the experience of galloping on a horse that loves to run. It is a huge privilege to share something so special with such an incredible animal.
