More than just a hike
When hiking in Magalies or the Drakensberg, the Otter Trail would often come up as a topic of discussion. The opportunity finally arrived after a determined friend got four spots for us in early December. After months of prep, we were off with bags way too heavy with all sorts of delicious snacks.
Meandering through fynbos and indigenous forest during the five days, you begin to appreciate nature on a different level. Being able to switch from the rush of the real world and live in the moment is something we all need to experience now and then. From the beautiful waterfalls and river crossing left untouched, to the spotless overnight huts and facilities, SANParks really has done a great job at making this a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I mean, for under R2 000, how can you not want to experience one of the most famous trails in the world on our doorstep? And don't forget those marshmallows for the evening campfires.
