THE NOISE-LOVER

German-born Ursula Stevens has lived in Cape Town for 55 years, explored every crevice of it during her 39 years as a tour guide; she’s written guidebooks and narrated VoiceMap audio tours. What she loves about the city is the noise, the flagrant ignoring of personal space. ‘It’s people’s behaviour, how they come to you when they see you standing on the corner, tapping your shoulder to ask, “Can I help you?” It’s that social freedom – a friendliness you’d never experience in Germany.’
