5.30am My alarm goes o . I hit snooze and sleep a bit more. 5.50am I hop in the shower to wake up before my car arrives to take me from my apartment in downtown Vancouver, Canada, to the film studios where we’re shooting the new Armani Code Homme campaign video. I pop into a co ee shop en route; I’m a double espresso guy. 7am I arrive on the shoot, greet everyone and grab a plate of bacon and eggs for breakfast. Then I head to my trailer for hair and makeup and to go through the stylist’s rail. I love wearing a sharp suit. 8.20am It’s time to start filming. Shooting an advert is so di erent to a film: it’s very atmospheric, everything is in slow motion (everybody always looks better in slow motion) and you know they’re going to use killer music. 12.25pm Now I get a quick break for lunch. I grab a chicken salad and take the opportunity to read a little. I’ve just finished David Mitchell’s operatic fantasy The Bone Clocks (Hodder & Stoughton; R318), and now I’m starting a brutal spy novel by Charles Cumming called The Trinity Six (Harpercollins; R222). 1.10pm Back to work. We’re doing two short films for the campaign; the first one is very moody and dark, the second is warmer and lighter. It’s great working with our director of photography Philippe Le Sourd, who was nominated for an Oscar for the 2013 movie The Grandmaster. 7pm Filming is done for the day, so I get to fit in a quick workout before I go out for the evening. I’m headed to a great Italian restaurant, Cincin, for red wine and pasta with friends. 11.55pm I get a taxi home and, when I’m there, I have a shower (I’m not a fan of baths) and then jump straight into bed, ready for another 5.30am start on day two of the Armani shoot.
