12 Things you do when your boss isn’t in the office

1 Arrive late. That extra 25 minutes of snooze time is the sweetest. 2

Take the world’s longest lunch break. 3 Leave early. I mean, you usually stay late. In fact, if you added up all the overtime you’ve clocked up over the years, you’d be owed a week off. 4 Tick one key thing off the to-do list that you can inform your absent boss about on their return, to prove how productive you were. “Finally finished that presentation, boss.” One gold star for you. 5

Come into work with the worst hangover. 6 Increase the workplace banter with your colleagues by at least 100%. Because their boss is away, too.

7 Complete your online shopping. Charge to credit card or pay cash on delivery? The toughest decision you’ll make all day. 8

Refuse to answer any phone calls. Hey, you’re still reachable by email. Well, occasionally. 9

Catch up on your social media admin. Lots has happened on Instagram. And your Twitter bio could do with a rewrite. 10 Avoid any big decisionmaking. You’re simply not qualified to make that sort of call. Your boss will be back next week, anyway. 11

Book your plane tickets for your weekend away. And the hotel. And research fun activities. Oh yes, and restaurants. 12
