The Hair Appointment is series by Nigerian-canadian artist Josef Adamu and photographer Jeremy RodneyHall. It’s a visual series curated to demonstrate the beauty of hairstyling as a process, a lifestyle and an overall experience. This image of a mother styling her daughter’s lush, natural hair while she styles her doll’s hair took me on a nostalgic journey. It conjured up memories of the women in my family sectioning, basing and untangling my hair, then plaiting it into four neat squares.

What drew me to The Hair Appointment was how it further displays the location flexibility of hair braiding and the emotions that come with it. Getting your hair done is intimate. There is beauty in the ritual, whether it’s done from a family home or salon. It taught us how to love our hair, whatever the length or curl pattern. It’s an at-times-painful experience between two individuals, with trust at its core. When it comes to your crown, the glory of it is how unique each person’s hair type is. How it reacts to water, humidity or heat. One day it ‘ behaves’, the next it seems to take on its own personality. With this in mind, the Glamour team compiled this all-new Glamour Hair.

We have refreshed our logo, creating a simple design where ‘hair’ sits at the centre of the word ‘our’. This is to say that this issue is Glamour’s commitment to covering, sharing stories about and engaging in conversations about ‘our hair’. Whether you’re transitioning, wigging it out, growing your locs or love big, bouncy curls, turn the page to see inspo, tips and tricks, and enjoy great reads that are all about the business of hair. Our hair is the ultimate accessory. Asanda
