1 The fifth-generation Toyota RAV4 is extremely eye-catching with expressive, bolder and sleeker lines. Sporting a bold bumper, grille, LED headlights and tail lights, the broad, athletic build that tapers towards the back provides an all-round muscular appearance. We thoroughly enjoyed how it turned heads everywhere we drove.

Performance is seamless and impressive. The 2.0L engine delivers a maximum power output of 127kW at 6600rpm and peak torque of 203Nm between 4 4004 800rpm, while also offering a claimed fuel consumption of between 6.5-6.8L/100km and CO2 emissions as low as 147g/km.

Befitting Toyota’s occupant safety ethos, the new RAV4 is equipped with a raft of safety features. A full suite of airbags – including knee and curtain types – are fitted to all models, with electronic driver aids in the form of ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Hill Assist Control (HAC) and Trailer Sway Control all catered for. The Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and LDA systems offer steering assist as well as radar-controlled braking in conjunction with acceleration functions. This makes for effortless driving on the open roads.

The cabin is characterised by high-sensory quality throughout and precision execution. Softtouch surfaces abound, including the dashboard and door panels. Switchgear is new, too, with cleanly integrated buttons and pleasingly tactile controls. Brushed-aluminium trim adds a premium feel and highlights the interior’s stylish design.

5 We love that the RAV4 is available in an assortment of exterior and interior colours to allow for custom tailoring. GX and VX models are offered in nine exterior colour choices ranging from urban khaki to cinnabar red and Caribbean blue. GX-R variants are available in five complementary colours.
