HAVE YOU ALWAYS LOVED FITNESS?

I used to be overweight and unhappy before I was introduced to functional training with kettlebells. Fitness changed my life; and through my journey, I became a beacon of guidance for other women.

Training guru Rushda Moosajee shares her health and fitness advice – and what to expect next from her enterprise for women.

WHAT’S THE MOST REWARDING PART OF YOUR JOB?

If you instigate a real change, no matter how small, it creates a snowball effect of positive energy. Every day, strangers remind me about the impact my work has had on their lives.

YOU’VE PROGRESSED RAPIDLY OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS, EVEN MONTHS, TELL US ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY?

Becoming a mom has given me superpowers. My son, Haydar, has been the inspiration and driving force behind me tackling my wildest dreams. He’s my secret sauce because he makes me believe I can accomplish anything. I’ve always had big goals. Now I’m in my mid 30s, these are attainable. Seeing my visions come to life – creating products and services out of nothing – is exhilarating.

WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL BEAUTIFUL?

My tenacity to achieve goals. I’m passionate but I can still laugh at myself.

WHAT ARE YOUR GOTO HAIR, SKIN AND MAKEUP PRODUCTS?

I’m a mom who usually only has time to wash and go. I love the occasional Brazilian treatment that’s formaldehyde-free, and at the moment, I’m using

Kevin Murphy Hydrate Me Shampoo (R510). I use Lamelle products on my problematic skin and Korean skincare to achieve a glass-like effect. I can’t go a day without wearing Huda Beauty on my lips – even when I’m at the gym.

AN EXPENSIVE TREATMENT YOU’VE PURCHASED THAT YOU DON’T REGRET?

Having laser lipo and fat freezing after the birth of my son to shrink the skin on my belly. And all the money I’ve spent on personal training sessions; which is ironic because I’m a personal trainer myself.

YOUR BEST-KEPT BEAUTY SECRET?

I prefer thread lifts because I’m allergic to Botox.

YOU WORK LONG HOURS, HOW DO

YOU MAINTAIN GOOD HEALTH AND SKIN?

Your diet is key. When I say diet, I mean nutrition, as well as your mental diet. I’m very focused: I simplify my life and limit distractions.

TAKE US THROUGH YOUR HAIRCARE ROUTINE?

Wash, condition, leave in, blow dry. If I have time, I run a flat iron through it.

WHO DO YOU TRUST WITH YOUR HAIR?

Only myself. I hate it when other people can’t dry or style my hair the way I like it. My hair is very fine, so it’s easy to ruin.

WORKOUTS, AND HEAVY MAKEUP AND HARSH LIGHTING AT PHOTO SHOOTS ARE ALL PART OF YOUR DAILY ROUTINE. HOW DO YOU MAINTAIN HEALTHY SKIN?

I’m serious about the skincare products I use and my routine. I have regular peels, ultrasound and currents, as well as dermapen by my skin guru Raydiance Skin and Body. I also train and film wearing the Bobbi Brown Nude Finish Tinted Moisturiser SPF15 (R595).

THREE TIPS FOR A HEALTHY GUT?

• Green Vibrance

• Hulk Juice

• Manage your stress levels

WHAT, IN YOUR OPINION, IS THE BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION AROUND FITNESS AND HEALTH?

That it has to be all or nothing. It doesn’t. Your routine has to have structure, but you also need to be adaptable, flexible, and your fitness has to fit into your life. This is why so many people ‘fall off’. It’s normal to get sick, travel, get married, mourn a loved one, get pregnant, become a new parent, overcome injury, or work on deadlines. These are all part of life.

YOU’RE ALSO A MOM. WHAT EXERCISES OR ROUTINES DO YOU FOLLOW FOR YOUR WELL-TONED BODY?

I swear by full-body, functional training, using odd lifting, bags, balls and weights. My favourite is kettlebells, which are the secret weapon to a strong, toned and sexy body. The Rushtush Fitness App, which launches next January, teaches users how to apply my training method.

WHAT’S NEXT?

We’ve been very busy at Rushtush Enterprises. Hopefully, my little family will expand, too.
