AFRICAN RENAISSANCE
The October issue marks Trevor Stuurman’s first time shooting a cover for Glamour, an experience he had been eagerly awaiting. “I’ve been a part of the Condé Nast family for a few years now, and I finally got to shoot a cover for
Glamour. It’s a dream come true to be part of a new dawn and a new movement, which the
Glamour brand represents. Both Bonang and Rich have bold personalities, so initially I was nervous, but once we got on set, it was all a labour of love. The energy was relaxed and felt effortless.”
For Trevor, fashion means power. “It means I can out dress any situation or circumstance that may come my way. It’s a way and a means of survival. It’s also representation. What I love most about shooting South African fashion is that I’m documenting our history in real time and that it’s part of a bigger picture that reframes the global perspective of who and what we are. I strongly believe that my work is part of restoring our dignity and preserving our culture. It also plays an important part in creating a new visual language. I love my people, and I love celebrating them through my photography.”
