Kobus Dippenaar, couture evening and bridal gown designer, weighs in.
On having multiple dresses
Having more than one dress is overkill. Rather opt for one dress that changes into different looks, like a short party dress with a big ball gown over the top that you can remove later.
To show skin, or not
I love a show of skin, but I also believe in elegance. You can either have an exposed back, cleavage or a leg slit – but never all three.
Shoes
Shoes play an integral part in your ensemble, and I’m a firm believer in heels because they make your legs appear longer and align your body proportions. If you want to wear quirky sneakers for later in the evening, then go for it. And if there’s a chance of rain on the day, get yourself some beautifully decorated Wellington boots to take pictures in.
Get suited up in style
I’m into the deconstructed tuxedo: heavy, satin palazzo trousers, with deep pleats and a lace camisole underneath, accompanied by an oversized blazer, with lace lining on the inside of the hem and cuff. I think it’s amazing!
