Glamour Staff on Their Most Memorable Tattoos

-

This tattoo is a reimagining of famous Austrian artist Gustav Klimt’s The Kiss. I got it in memory of a late friend of mine who was an art collector. His dream for me was to go to Paris and when I finally went, this art piece followed me around everywhere, reminding me of his presence in my life.

This tattoo depicts the logo’s of five bands that have impacted my life greatly: My Chemical Romance, Fallout Boy, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Thirty Seconds to Mars and Blink 182. For the better part of 28 years, their words have inspired me, brought comfort and strength during trying times and shaped a large part of my identity.

Two years ago, I had a tattoo done of three x’s. It was the subject line of my dad’s last email to me before he died. Exactly 30 days after his death, I decided to commemorate his life. The process was emotional and cathartic. I had my best friend by my side and trusted

the artist.

It’s a blueprint of a Lego man that I got done by Irish James at Sins of Style in Cape Town. A blueprint is a design or plan that explains how to do or develop something, which is kind of how I approach my life – if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. And this is the exact reason I got it – a little reminder to always remember the goal I’m heading towards, and to keep me grounded.
