My mom has taught me critical life lessons that have shaped me into the woman I am today. She’s one of the strongest, most hardworkin­g women I know. One of the principles she taught me was how to be proactive and intentiona­l about realising my dreams.

She was the first friend I made at Wits University. It’s been 11 years since then, and now I consider her a sister. She’s been a pillar of guidance and wisdom. We share similar values and principles, which have shaped my spirituali­ty and strengthen­ed my relationsh­ip with God.

I was diagnosed with depression, anxiety and insomnia in 2018. I started seeing Cassandra, a clinical psychologi­st. She helped me heal from past traumas, navigate my emotions and make sense of my thoughts. Until then, I hadn’t understood the importance of mental wellness.

I’m in awe of her hard work, focus, dedication, discipline and commitment to her craft. She’s a constant reminder that there are no short cuts to success, and that you can be anything you want to be if you align your actions to your thoughts and dreams. I challenge myself because of her influence.

If someone told me Sarah Jakes Roberts was in town, I’d move heaven and earth to meet her. I started listening to her sermons last year. I knew 2019 was going to be a life-changing year for me, and that I’d need spiritual guidance. I believe God spoke to me through her sermons.
