JUST ASKING… WITH ACTRESS SHARON STONE

-

“Now I look back at old films or

clips, and I think, ‘Oh, I was such a

pretty girl.’ I wish I’d known that”

Glamour: The best beauty tip you learnt at work?

Sharon Stone: Do your eye makeup before applying a base, or else it’ll smudge all over your face.

Glamour: And the best in general?

SS: My mom was an Avon salesperson, and she gave me a jar of Avon Rich Moisture Cream. She said, “Put this on every morning and night, and you’ll thank me for the rest of your life.”

Glamour: Your biggest regret?

SS: When you’re young, people envy prettiness, [and] no one else feels secure enough to tell you you’re pretty. I was insecure about how I looked. Now I look at films or clips, and I think, ‘Oh, I was such a pretty girl.’ I wish I’d known that.

Glamour: Your most beautiful role?

SS: Playing Catherine in Basic

Instinct was interesting because it was the first time anyone ever made me look like a beautiful woman. And yet, somehow, there’s beauty even in people who collapse. Like in Lovelace, where the character, Dorothy, is an elderly housewife and a waitress, struggling and devoid of her beauty because she works so hard and doesn’t understand what she’s meant to do or who she’s meant to be. The beauty in some of these characters is a tiny, incandescent light, as intriguing as candlelight. We rarely see what’s true about women. I find these small truths luxuriously beautiful.

Glamour: Your favourite facial feature?

SS: I’m lucky I have a good nose.

Glamour: Describe your current look in three words.

SS: Hanging in there!

Glamour: The last product you finished?

SS: Rituals makes a bath-and-shower foam called Happy Buddha (R374) that I’m nuts about.

Glamour: What’s in your makeup bag?

SS: Weleda Skin Food (R239), a great moistursing cream that combats dry skin, all year round.

Glamour: What would we find in your shower?

SS: An array of scrubs. I’m not the type of person who believes in loads of different steps – just clean your face well with hot water and a scrub.
