Glamour: What is it about bare skin that makes you feel confident and alive? Nomzamo Mbatha:

Not wearing makeup is liberating, self-assuring, comforting. You don’t have to put on a show to feel confident because you can do it just as well in your natural state. I feel most beautiful when I’m barefaced, to be honest.

G: Which essential beauty items do you never leave the house without?

NM: Mascara, lip gloss, and sunscreen for my hands, especially when I’m driving because I find the sun always hits my hands, which can lead to discolouration.

G: Which part of the process of being a part of the Neutrogena team have you enjoyed the most?

NM: I love being part of the family, how we’ve built such a large community in South Africa for Neutrogena lovers – it’s a feather in my cap. I believe in the integrity of the brand and its products. I’ve seen the results, and it’s always so beautiful to see how women, young and old, have seen themselves reflected in a positive light when we as Neutrogena invite them to ‘See what’s possible’. We champion skin positivity: we don’t call it anti-ageing, we call it pro-ageing. It’s been an incredible journey seeing people resonate with the brand.

G: Your most used beauty or self-care item?

NM: It’s between Neutrogena’s Spot Controlling Facial Wash and Hydro Boost Water

Gel Cleanser. I always decant these and take them everywhere with me. I’m obsessed with my face, and I love using exfoliating mitts when I wash it.

G: The last beauty product you finished that gives you healthy looking skin and no-makeup confidence, especially when you’re travelling?

NM: I use Neutrogena Hydro Boost Serum twice a day, and when I travel I lather it on my face – so a bottle doesn’t last me long! I use Hydro Boost City Shield SPF25 to protect my skin, especially during the summer season.

G: Tips for not melting in front of harsh camera lights and daily aggressors?

NM: I take good care of my skin. If you’re going to be under harsh lighting, invest in a hydrating eye cream, and a moisturiser that protects the barrier of your skin and has hydrating properties to quench your skin. You should wear sunscreen every day, but it also helps to minimise scarring.
