Les Fleurs De CHANEL Spring-summer 2021 COLLECTION

-

to enrich her creations, Lucia pica, global Creative makeup and Colour designer for Chanel, explores the world around her with method and reflection. She finds inspiration everywhere, at every moment. during her initiatory ‘journey’ that she takes in the company of photographers and videographers with singular artistic approaches, she captures colours that are sometimes fleeting, effects that are often unusual, and particularly unexpected materials. Like a camera, she transforms everything she sees, everything that inspires her, into an image.

WITH EACH NEW COLLECTION, Lucia touches on a new area of the beauty lexicon, identifies an aspect not yet explored and revisits the idea completely. for the spring-summer 2021 collection, Les fleurs de Chanel, she explored the plant realm and, more specifically, immersed herself in the world of flowers. “i wanted to focus on flowers, but not necessarily in their natural environment. i wanted to study each flower individually, to bring out the elegance and personality of each one,” Lucia clarifies.

among these flowers, of course, are Camellias, which were so dear to mademoiselle Chanel, but also peonies, irises, anthuriums, pansies, carnations and sweet peas.

alongside photographer Laura sciacovelli, Lucia captured the beauty of this ephemeral ‘living material’, and all that it evokes: freshness and optimism, grace and elegance, energy and renewal. in the manner of her other collections, a set of prints was produced to document her research and to create a new colour scheme, a new range of textures and effects, and an incredible richness.

“i can’t help but see new colours and textures when i’m surrounded by nature,” Lucia shares. “the Les fleurs de Chanel collection has every possible effect: shiny, matte, metallic, satiny, velvet.”

the sensuality of the snapshots, their blurry resolution, abstractness, their colours sometimes saturated, imbue the collection with a poetic and dreamlike dimension and a sense of femininity. the atmosphere is elegant, dreamy and romantic, all while leaving space for bursts of spontaneity. seen through the filter of these distinctive photographic effects, a harmony emerges between the floral universe and the woman who symbolises this collection.

inspired by the aura, decadence and enigmatic sensuality of flowers, Lucia designed a collection for spring and summer that’s light, luminous and rich with emotion, where warm mixes with cool and sparkles are combined with the subtlety of earthy brown undertones.

delicate meets bold, uniting the liveliness of shimmering colours dominated by coral orange with the slightly satiny radiance of ‘bare’ skin, softly warmed by the sublime intensity of bronze and copper.

Lucia uses soothing colours, such as a subtly golden-peach pink, to illuminate and sculpt the face, and juxtaposes them with warm, intense tones such as bright red and poppy orange for the lips and nails.

she plays with the earthy facet of terracotta harmonies, intense and mysterious, to give the eyes more depth.
