THE MODERN WAY TO HOST

We’re seeing more activity on the social scene and Nono events are disrupting the hosting space. Founder Maureen Nono Skosana gives us the scoop on the magic behind the scenes.

Nono Events offers luxury design and decor services for every event, including birthday parties, bridal showers, funerals and graduations. “We also hire out furniture, decor, equipment and tents for the public,” says Maureen. They pride themselves on making sure they exceed every client’s expectations at all times.

GLAMOUR: Talk us through the history of your company?

MAUREEN NONO SKOSANA: I was at a friend’s party when I fell in love with decorating events. That was when I discovered my passion. I’m an attorney by profession, so I intended my company to be a side hustle, but it grew to a point where it required my full attention. I established it in 2012 as an events company that only hired out lounge furniture for small parties. Due to high demand, we’ve expanded to cater to weddings, festivals and corporate gigs.

G: Where do you hope to see the company’s growth in the future?

MNS: We’re in the process of acquiring and owning wedding venues and opening branches in other provinces. At the moment, we travel to other parts of South Africa and neighbouring countries.

G: Who’s your ideal customer?

MNS: We service anyone and everyone planning any event. We cater for anything from a kiddies’ party to a couple planning their wedding day for guest lists as extensive as 500 to thousands. We also offer our services to production companies. We have done events for Ferguson Films, The Estate, The Real Housewives of Johannesburg and Happiness Ever After.

We’ve also done weddings and parties for wellknown celebrities, such as Somizi Mhlongo, DJ Tira, Khanyi Mbau, Kelly Khumalo and Boity Thulo. We have a great team, and we continue to feed off each other’s ideas and talents to give our customers the quality service they deserve.
