WESTERN ROUTE: SPINAL ROAD

-

nights’ stay here. Andy and Libby Wilson hold the fort at the camp and they’ll tell you where to see game. Ask Andy about the time he saw 350 elephants swimming through the Kafue River… Spinal Road is inside the park so you’ll see wild animals. It was rebuilt in 2012 and it’s in a better condition than it has been in the past. It’s a gravel road, but you don’t need a 4x4 in the dry season. There are several low-water bridges, some of which become submerged during the rainy season (December to March). The road might be closed for short periods of time if it’s flooded.

There are no places to camp between Kasabushi and Hippo Bay south of the Itezhi-Tezhi Dam. It takes about three hours to drive from Kasabushi to Hippo Bay, but give yourself more time so you can stop to watch animals and birds along the way.
