Ihave se­cretly been in love with De­fend­ers ever since the first time I rode in one with a friend through the Lowveld. For many peo­ple, it’s an iconic ve­hi­cle that you imag­ine when you think of African ex­pe­di­tions, long trips through the jun­gles of South Amer­ica or a chal­leng­ing drive in the high­lands of Bri­tain. So be­ing able to test drive a new De­fender for the last time is a bit­ter­sweet sen­sa­tion. The own­ers and fans of Land Rover and De­fend­ers get up­set when you start talk­ing about the end of an era, but sadly, that is what it is. To com­mem­o­rate it, a spe­cial her­itage edi­tion of the De­fender has been re­leased, and it made me grin like a lit­tle boy al­lowed to drive his dad’s car.
