Etosha - Damaraland & Skeleton Coast
Join a self-drive tour to Etosha, Damaraland and the Skeleton Coast with Go! Drive & Camp Tours and Bhejane 4x4 Adventures.
DAY 1
We meet in Swakopmund in the afternoon and get together to enjoy dinner around the fire. Your guide will make use of this opportunity to chat about what you can expect to see and do over the next 12 days.
DAY 2
We spend today exploring the town of Swakopmund. There are a number of activities on offer, including skydiving, sandboarding, dolphin and whale watching and quad biking in the desert. Your tour leader will help you make arrangements but activities will be for your own account.
DAY 3
After a leisurely breakfast, we head for Brandberg via the Cape Fur Seal colony at Seal Point. We have a picnic lunch en route. Entering the Dorob National Park area the crew will be ready for us and the pots will be on the fire.
DAY 4
After breakfast we take a guided walk up into the Brandberg Mountain to visit the famous “White Lady” and other rock paintings. We’ll have a picnic lunch along the way. We return to our camp and spend the afternoon relaxing around the pool. Late afternoon we travel in our vehicles to the foothills of a giant koppie where we enjoy a spectacular desert sunset while sipping sundowners.
DAY 5
We visit Burnt Mountain and the Organ Pipes and we learn more about Welwitchias. Twyfelfontein, with its prehistoric paintings, is our next destination, followed by the Petrified Forest, a site where enormous fossilised tree trunks occur.
DAY 6
We explore the Toro Conservancy, where we follow the course of the dry Huab and Uniab rivers, hoping to catch a glimpse of desert elephants and black rhinos.
DAY 7
We drive west to the coast and enter the Skeleton Coast National Park, where we visit Tora Bay and walk towards the Uniab Waterfall. We enjoy lunch along the coast and head back east to Palmwag in the heart of Damaraland.
DAY 8
We drive across Grootberg Pass on our way to Kamanjap and Outjo, where we refuel. And then on to Etosha! In the late afternoon we go for a game drive. Back in camp we spend the remainder of the evening observing the nocturnal activities at the floodlit water hole in the camp.
DAY 9
The morning is spent either in the shade at Ombika water hole or on a game drive in the park. Early afternoon we relax around the camp’s pool or enjoy its other attractions, and early evening we visit a spot where the peculiar African moringa, or ghost tree, grows.
DAYS 10 AND 11
These are our last two full days of the trip and, with Etosha being so vast, everybody has the chance to go off on their own on some gameviewing experience. By now you will know which part of the park is your favourite and where you have had the most success.
DAY 12
After a lavish breakfast we must sadly say goodbye to our new friends and travel companions as we pack up and head for home.
Yes, I want to go!
