Go! Drive & Camp

ED’S LETTER

- EDITOR schalk.jonker@media24.com

My trip to Parys for this month’s camping feature was bittersweet. Bitter because it basically rained the whole time (something we Capetonians are not used to anymore) and because my wife had to work and my daughter was in school and therefore couldn’t join me. But it was also sweet because I had the opportunity to visit a town where I lived for two years and because my parents went camping with me. It was nice to get away with my mom and dad for a few days, even though the weather wasn’t great. It was also interesting to hear their opinions of the places we visited. But how did I end up in Parys and Leon at Kam’Bati and why did Zigi drive almost all the mountain passes in the Eastern Cape? Why does Cyril write about jacks this month and Kyle about pets and safety in the campsite? A few months ago we sat down and planned out the rest of our year. We are in the fortunate position that we don’t only work for an outdoor magazine but that each of us is also an outdoor enthusiast. That’s why we don’t visit places only because we think you want to visit them, we do it because we want to experience it for ourselves. Also, articles like 4x4 Professor and Camp Boffin are researched and written because we find it interesting. And we believe it won’t only inform you, it will entertain you too. But however well we do our homework and report to you honestly and sincerely, we’re not experts who know everything. Not at all. And that’s why we need your help. If you know about something that you think belongs on the pages of go! Drive & Camp, please let us know. Tell us about your favourite camping spot or mountain trail and send us info on your brother-in-law who built his own rooftop tent and drawer system. The more we know, the more you know. Let’s help each other. Safe travels!
