Chakalaka-andcheese jaffles
CHAKALAKA-AND-CHEESE JAFFLES Have a jaffle day
These jaffles are quick to make and full of flavour.
Ingredients
(makes 8 jaffles) 16 slices white bread (the bigger kind) butter to spread 1 tin (410 g) chakalaka 2 cups grated cheddar
Here’s how
1 Butter one side of each slice of bread. 2 Place a large tablespoon of chakalaka in the middle of 8 slices, on the unbuttered side. Divide the cheese between the eight slices and put it on top of the chakalaka. Top with another slice of bread, buttered side on top. 3 Close the jaffle iron carefully over each sandwich and trim the sides. 4 Braai the jaffles over medium coals – turning regularly, till both sides have browned and the cheese has melted.
For a meaty version, cut leftover cooked boerewors into rounds and mix with the chakalaka before filling the jaffles.
