Go! Drive & Camp

Anything but quiet

- EDITOR schalk.jonker@media24.com

Here we are in the last quarter of the year, and I’m sure you’ve already made your plans for the December holiday. Of course, there are still quite a few things that need to happen before you can pack the car, hitch your wagon and hit the road. But it’s so close you can almost taste it…

Here at go! Drive & Camp, though, things are anything but chilled. Without applying for the job, Kyle was appointed our unofficial Middle Eastern correspondent – he had to travel to Jordan this month where he was one of the first to get behind the wheel of the new Hyundai Santa Fe.

He returned with a few good impressions and a flu like he’s never had before. That’ll teach him to complain about our winter weather.

Leon hitched a caravan, headed to the Cederberg and visited two campsites on both sides of Clanwilliam, while Evan travelled all the way to the Northern Cape to go play on the Goera Pan along with some colourful characters from the Nissan Patrol Forum.

Cyril, in turn, succeeded in getting stuck in sand with the new Volkswagen Touareg. He claims it’s the car’s fault and not his. In between he also took the reins on our stand-alone magazine Roetes Wat Roep 2018. We sent it to print a week before this issue and it’s already on shelf, waiting for you.

The team put together a guide with 40 trails across South Africa and in our neighbouring countries where you can go and play with your off-roader. That includes everything from single-day destinations to week-long trips, and the additional info was checked and rechecked to ensure that GPS coordinates, places to stay, contact numbers, maps, trail descriptions and advice are all up to date.

Roetes Wat Roep 2018 is just the thing to keep close while you’re planning your future adventures.

In the meantime let me know where you’re heading this December holiday and remember to take photos and send it to us.

Safe travels!
