Go! Drive & Camp

The Arteon is so pretty it draws attention everywhere you go. Personally, I prefer sportier vehicles, but I also like sitting high, and with the seat at its highest setting my head touches the roof. Its shape reminds me of a coupé, but it has four doors. I must admit, for this type of vehicle it has a surprisingly big boot.

The dashboard looks very similar to that of the Tiguan that we tested two months ago.

There are various drive modes, where the engine is sluggish in the Comfort mode and wide awake in Sport. When you put your foot down in Sport, the transmission and engine react immediately and the

needle in that kilowatt metre in the centre console hits 130 kW as the engine pushes out maximum power.

The suspension is stiff, and the very low-profile tyres also don’t help to make it a softer ride.

I enjoy the Heads-up Display that allows you to see the speed reading at the bottom of the windscreen. The reading is directly in your line of sight and it’s something that should be in every car.

The Arteon is definitely the prettiest car Volkswagen has ever built, and you might buy it based purely on its appearance. That goes for the interior and the exterior. If I had one, though, I wouldn’t use it as a towing vehicle; it leans more to the sporty side, but the test proved that the Arteon is more than capable to hitch a caravan.

The Arteon is excellently priced, and I have to say, this car has my name written all over it.
