It’s important to note that the costs for my assignment did not include the amount of money for fuel required to get to the lessons. Most driving schools will pick you up at work or home, but that depends on the school and where you’re based. Our options for this assignment were limited by where the driving schools actually operate. For my part, I had to embark on a 26 km commute to get to the lessons, while Schalk had to drive from the Cape Town CBD to Parow, a 40 km round trip every time.
Schalk took a package with He and She Driving School for R3 110 (including VAT). It included 10 driving lessons (one hour each) and the use of the truck and trailer on the day of the test. He also didn’t need to repeat the test because he passed with his first try.
