It’s im­por­tant to note that the costs for my as­sign­ment did not in­clude the amount of money for fuel re­quired to get to the lessons. Most driv­ing schools will pick you up at work or home, but that de­pends on the school and where you’re based. Our op­tions for this as­sign­ment were lim­ited by where the driv­ing schools ac­tu­ally op­er­ate. For my part, I had to em­bark on a 26 km com­mute to get to the lessons, while Schalk had to drive from the Cape Town CBD to Parow, a 40 km round trip ev­ery time.

Schalk took a pack­age with He and She Driv­ing School for R3 110 (in­clud­ing VAT). It in­cluded 10 driv­ing lessons (one hour each) and the use of the truck and trailer on the day of the test. He also didn’t need to re­peat the test be­cause he passed with his first try.
