After reading the brilliant article about the Richtersveld in the October issue, I can give the author an answer as to how the water tanks at Kokerboom Kloof get filled.
Dave Buchanan writes: ““Eventually, we found the source of the water: four giant 10 000-litre tanks, skilfully disguised by the equally giant rocks around them. Who knows how they’re filled – a borehole?”
Well, the water is transported all the way from the Orange River using a Bell 6x4 truck. On the back of the truck there’s a water tank from which the water gets pumped across to the tanks at Kokerboom Kloof.
I work at a tyre supplier, and when this photo was taken, we were in the process of putting new tyres onto the truck. WILLEM VAN DER MERWE Springbok
