Go! Drive & Camp

Tranquil waters

-

There’s a new campsite just 30 km outside Pretoria, on the Moloto Road. Ruah Park opened its gates to campers last year, and the last phase for completion started in August.

Ruah Park – the name is from a Hebrew word meaning “breath of life” – sits on a patch of land that’s just over 30 ha, and the 38 stands are set in a small gorge surrounded by ridges. A natural spring bubbles from the ground and also runs through the property.

When you arrive at the office, you will first find the Blesbok camp (the newest stands), followed by the Nyala camp, which is laid out on terraces parallel to the spring. You’ll spot some buck here – yes, including a nyala that visits the campsite.

Each stand has its own bathroom facilities that include a shower and sink. You also have your own power point, tap and braai area.

The stream’s water runs into a dam where you can try hook a black bass or a tilapia. They should of course be released.

Other than the games room for the young ones, there is more than enough cycling to do. There are also no fewer than five short hiking trails up the slopes of the Bobbejaans Mountain if you want to see more of nature, and when you want to cool off, there are two swimming pools.

The last kilometre or so to Ruah Park is a dirt road, but it’s good enough to tow a standard road caravan.

Price R400-R600 pn per site for the first 4 campers (depending on the season), thereafter R60 pp (maximum 6 people per site).
