4x4 action in the Cape
The Western Cape’s biggest 4x4 event, Battle of the Beasts, takes place outside Durbanville on 25 January. The plan is to allow 243 vehicles to participate in three arenas. Each arena caters to 81 vehicles – they’ll each face nine obstacles.
The first arena challenges drivers to get their off-roader through an obstacle course without assistance. The second one involves the whole family and passengers are invited to assist the driver with various tasks. The third arena presents challenges to 27 two-wheeldrive vehicles, 27 veteran vehicles (from before 1985) and an extreme obstacle course for 27 hard-core off-roaders.
But the most popular challenge by far is the drag racing track where off-road vehicles battle one another, two at a time.
The theme for this year’s rally is Mad
Max and participants are encouraged to dress like the movie character and give their vehicles a postapocalyptic look. In addition to the 4x4 activities, there is also a mountain bike race with 400 riders participating, and a tournament for radio-controlled models.
There will be food stalls, a bar, musical performances and children’s activities, as well as stalls where you can view and buy 4x4 accessories.
Where? Dirt & Dust, Durbanville.
Date 25 January 2020 from 6:00 to 19:00. Price R400 to participate and R50 to watch (R25 for children).
