Go! Drive & Camp

Build your bed

-

One of the unusual elements of the Obiqua is how the beds are set up. As you stand behind the camper, one half of the roof opens to the right and the other to the left.

First loosen the roof clips on each side and swing the ladder down in the centre of the unit at the tailgate. The door then opens from left to right. Climb up the ladder until you reach the roof. Take each of the sides in front of you and lift them up – they swing open almost effortlessly.

While the two beds open, the tent unfolds in front of you. Where you walk into the unit is a panel with an arch that forms the door frame. As the tent unfolds, the door frame lifts up so you can now stand inside the Obiqua. In front of you is another solid panel that also swings upwards like the arch.

An adjustable pole now fits at the top between the two panels so as to form the apex. The length of the bed at its far ends each gets a U-frame that lifts up to support the sides of the tent. Four support poles now fit between the corners of the U-frames to the apex pole. The Obiqua’s tent now looks like a rooftop tent on top of a fibreglass hull.

A fly sheet gets pitched with three springsteel rods on each side. These are exactly like the ones you’ll find on rooftop tents and on off-road trailers. You have to stretch high to reach them; Perhaps pack a small step so you don’t accidentally put out your back with the effort.
